Course Description:
Gr: 11-12/Lv: Adv/Cr: 1 /Prereq: two science credits, one being Biology
The course is designed as a study of the anatomy and physiology of the human body. Students are required to locate, identify, and describe functions and structures of organ systems. Students will participate in laboratory investigations and dissections exploring the organ systems and related epidemiological issues of human disease. Students should possess good memorization, study, and laboratory skills.

Tutorials: Tutorials are offered by appointment before or after school. Knowledge is seldom achieved if what needs to be learned takes place in the last minute.

Grading Policy:

Comprehension (20%): activities include basic knowledge work done primarily on a daily basis in class or as homework including homework quizzes. There will be a minimum 5 comprehensive assignments taken per term depending on the length of the grading term and content being studied.
Application (40%): activities measure the student’s ability to use the information they have gained from course discussions, lectures, and other activities. Application grades include all laboratory activities; laboratory quizzes, application quizzes, and projects. There will be a minimum of 4 application assignments taken per term depending on the length of the grading term and content being studied
Evaluation (40%): activities involve students demonstrating their cumulative knowledge of a unit or subject, and require the highest level of integrated thinking skills. Evaluation grades include unit exams, oral quizzes, laboratory exams, unit or enrichment projects. There will be a minimum of 3 evaluation assignments per term depending on the length of the grading term and content being studied.

Late Work: Students are permitted to submit one application assignment one day late each term for a 25% reduction in grade. No late work will be accepted after the one-day grace period. Work is considered late if not turned in at the beginning of the student’s scheduled class period or when the teacher announces the deadline for submitting work. Make Up Work: The policy is stated in the handbook for excused and unexcused absences. For school activity absences, the student must check with the teacher prior to the absence for assignment instructions. It is the student’s responsibility to check the assignment board and schedule make up quizzes and exams. Every attempt will be made to complete the assignment before the student absence from class. Students are expected to complete assignments and have them ready for review when they return to class unless discussed with the teacher. Deadlines on all projects will be upheld unless extenuating circumstances arise.

Extra Credit: Extra Problems on unit tests will also be provided within the format of the test. No other extra credit grades are given or grades dropped.

Lab/Computer Activities: Labs and computer activities will be scheduled as appropriate for the curriculum. Students are responsible for lab equipment being used and will be required to pay the current price for damaged or missing laboratory or computer equipment.

Blog: Class assignments and projects are posted on the WO Science Wizards blog on a weekly basis. Students are expected to read the blog before class and complete assignments as they are assigned. Often times it is the student’s responsibility to bring note handouts, reading assignments, or the like to class for the daily activities in class. Students who do not bring the assignments to class will not be prepared to participate, they will be penalized for not having assignments. Students who miss class also have the opportunity to see their assignments and complete them as necessary, and to have their assignments when they return to class.
